It’s official. The Toronto Blue Jays are going to the playoffs.
Boston’s victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday afternoon secured a spot for the Blue Jays, albeit in a somewhat anticlimactic fashion.
The Blue Jays continue to hold the top wild card spot, leading Tampa by 1.5 games, with the Rays playing in Cleveland later on Thursday. The Seattle Mariners, who host Texas later today, trail Toronto by 2 games.
The top team in the wild card race will host the second place team, while the third wild card team will head to Cleveland to square off with the Guardians.
Toronto has 6 games remaining; 3 at home against Boston and 3 in Baltimore.
Tampa Bay plays all 6 of its remaining games on the road; 3 in Houston and 3 in Boston.
Seattle finishes off with 7 more at home; 3 against Oakland and 4 against Detroit, including a doubleheader on Tuesday.
Baltimore, who remains in contention but can’t catch the Blue Jays, will play 3 games against the Yankees in New York this weekend before hosting the Jays for 3 beginning Monday.
Each wild card series will play 3 games at the higher-seeded team’s stadium with the games coming on consecutive days Friday October 9 through Sunday October 11.
Let the fun begin.
